Hodgdon powders can help you acquire repeatable results with every shot, whether you’re into hunting, match shooting, or using a firearm for self-defense. Hodgdon is one of the oldest and most trusted manufacturers of ammunition propellants, serving reloaders in the United States and across the world for many years. From the original H4895 powder to the latest CFE line, designed to decrease copper fouling, Powder Valley is pleased to carry all of Hodgdon’s offerings.
Hodgdon Powder, founded in 1966, is a distributor of gunpowder in the United States. Bruce Hodgdon, a World War II soldier, hunter, and shooter, founded the company. The first Hodgdon Powder company was formed by a family and rapidly expanded. Despite the company’s name recognition for its smokeless powders, Hodgdon Powder is also a go-to for those looking for an alternative to traditional black powder thanks to its use of Pyrodex, which makes it safer, simpler to clean, and good for 30% more rounds per pound. For reloading powders, Hodgdon has had a Winchester powder license since 2006. Hodgdon Powder has been the go-to for ammunition loaders for decades because of its vast selection of reliable, high-performance propellants.
During his time as a salesperson, Navy veteran and expert reloader Bruce Hodgdon learned that the United States military intended to discard hundreds of barrels of surplus powder. He borrowed against his life insurance coverage to buy 50,000 pounds of excess 4895 powder while doubting there would be a commercial demand for it. B. E. Hodgdon, Incorporated’s humble beginnings may be traced back to a boxcar and the distribution of products via the family automobile in 1952.
Hodgdon has earned a reputation as a leading developer by consistently producing cutting-edge alternatives to traditional smokeless powder and black powder. Since its introduction in 1972, the muzzleloading community has consistently shown overwhelming support for Pyrodex. Varget powder has quick-igniting power.223 shooters require and are made to be easily metered. TiteGroup powder is widely regarded as the best option for modern pistol reloaders due to its high efficiency, low noise production, and consistent ballistics.
Hodgdon has made two major acquisitions since 2003: IMR Powder Company, Alliant Powder, Vihtavuori Powder, Ramshot Powder, and Shooters World Powders. Hodgdon Black Powder is a global leader in the production and distribution of gunpowder (including smokeless powders, traditional black powder, and black powder replacements) because of the breadth of the Hodgdon product range.
Hodgdon Powder is known for more than simply smokeless propellants. All across the world, hunters and muzzleloading shooters know that Hodgdon Powder produces the most practical, effective, safe, and easily cleaned alternatives to black powder. Since its 1976 introduction, Pyrodex has been the most widely used and well-accepted alternative to traditional black powder. When compared to regular black powder, Pyrodex products burn cleaner, are safer, and yield 30% more shots per pound. After firing, Pyrodex is much less of a hassle to clean.
